Awesome things to do in Sofia

  • The lively streets of Sofia will energise you and put a pep in your step every morning. Take in the city’s great vibe when you sit down at a cafe for some coffee. On your way to work grab a traditional Bulgarian breakfast which typically consists of banitsa (a savory pastry with feta cheese), a variety of Bulgarian cheeses, kaymak, and Bulgarian yogurt. Now that’s a great way to start your day!

  • You have to try Bulgarian cuisine. Sofia offers a wide variety of traditional Bulgarian dishes, such as kavarma (stewed meat and vegetables), sarmi (stuffed cabbage leaves), and moussaka (layered eggplant and meat dish). The city also has several street food markets that offer a variety of affordable and delicious options, such as kebab, shawarma, and banitsa. Bulgarian salads are great and there are several salad bars that offer a healthy option for lunch.

  • You are guaranteed to have a fun night out in Sofia, regardless of what you choose. Pubs and bars are great to mingle with the locals and enjoy a pint with your friends. Sofia also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with many clubs that offer music, dancing, and drinks. Some popular clubs include Mixtape 5, Club MiXtape, and Club Play. Want to sing your heart out? Sofia has a few karaoke venues that are perfect for a night out with friends.

  • Have a great weekend in The Seven Rila Lakes, a group of glacial lakes located in the Rila Mountains, about 120 km south of Sofia. They offer great hiking and camping opportunities. Spend the day in Samokov, a beautiful town located about 60 km south of Sofia, known for its beautiful architecture, traditional Bulgarian houses and the nearby skiing resorts. Visit the Pancharevo Lake, a beautiful lake located just outside of Sofia where you can swim, fish, and do water sports in the summer.
