Awesome things to do in Bern

  • Have breakfast in the city's beautiful old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There you’ll find plenty of cafés that serve local cuisine. Try a Birchermüesli, a type of muesli invented in Bern by a Swiss doctor. It consists of oats, milk, and fruit, and is often served as a breakfast dish.

  • Visit a local market or food hall and try some traditional Swiss dishes, such as Raclette (melted cheese served with potatoes and pickles) or Fondue (melted cheese served with bread for dipping). Relax in one of the city's many parks, such as the Rosengarten or the Marzili.

  • Visit a local bar or brewery and try some traditional Swiss beers. Go to a concert or show at one of the city's many music venues, such as the Dampfzentrale or the ISC Club. Go to a club or dance party at one of Bern's famous nightlife spots, such as the Reitschule or the Rössli Bar.

  • Take a trip to the Swiss Alps, located a short distance to the south of Bern. The Alps are home to a number of ski resorts, as well as beautiful hiking and biking trails. Go on a day trip to the Emmental, a region of rolling hills and forests located to the east of Bern. Emmental is known for its cheese, and you can visit a local cheese dairy to see how it's made.
