Athens is known for its ancient landmarks and monuments, such as the Parthenon temple on the Acropolis, the Agora, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It is a city with a lively and vibrant culture, and is known for its delicious food, lively nightlife, and friendly people.

Awesome things to do in Athens

  • Visit historical landmarks like the Acropolis and Parthenon Temple early in when the weather is cool and they are less crowded. Try a local breakfast like traditional Greek yogurt with honey and nuts or Spanakopita, a savoury pastry made with phyllo dough and filled with spinach and cheese.

  • Eat a traditional Greek lunch: There are many restaurants in Athens that serve traditional Greek food, such as souvlaki (grilled meat skewers), gyros (pita bread filled with meat and vegetables), and moussaka (a baked dish made with eggplant, ground meat, and a bechamel sauce).

     

  • Attend a live performance, take a walk through the city and visit a rooftop bar. Athens has many rooftop bars with panoramic views of the city, which are great places to relax and enjoy a drink. Grab a bite to eat at restaurants and tavernas (traditional Greek restaurants) serving a variety of dishes.

  • Go to the beach! Athens is surrounded by a number of beaches, such as Vouliagmeni and Varkiza, where you can swim and relax. Explore the town of Hydra, a charming island located a short ferry ride from Athens, known for its picturesque harbour and narrow streets.
